description Just 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, the park has over 4,000 acres, featuring hiking, fishing, bird watching and horseback riding opportunities. There are 15 miles of streamside trail through oak and sycamore woodlands and chaparral-covered slopes. Twenty-five-mile Malibu Creek in the park is the principal water-course of the Santa Monica Mountains - from Boney Mountain to Malibu Lagoon. The park was the center of Chumash Native American life for centuries and was once used to film numerous movies and TV shows, such as Planet of the Apes and M*A*S*H. importantInformation Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in. Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP). The campground is approximately 10 minutes by car to the beach. Park is reservable year round. Wood fires are NOT allowed. Charcoal or gas camp stoves are okay. No one under 18 years allowed to camp without parents written consent. Showers are $.50 per 3 minutes. Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. Although your site may hold 2 or more vehicles, your reservation only covers 1 vehicle (except for group or specialty sites). Park main entrance gate closes nightly at 9:00 p.m. (10/01-05/31); 10:00 pm (06/01-09/30) and opens daily at 8:00 a.m. The one-way exit side of the gate remains open 24 hours daily and is guarded by spring-loaded "tiger teeth." (This means that if a camper needs to leave the park after the gate is closed, they will not be able to re-enter the park with their vehicle until the following morning. It also means that due-in campers, with reservations, should plan on arriving at the park before the gate closes.) To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants Occupancy by the same persons, equipment, or vehicles of the Angeles District's camping facilities is limited to a total of 30 days in any calendar year. These facilities include: Leo Carrillo State Park Campground, Malibu Creek State Park Campground and Point Mugu State Park campgrounds including Sycamore Canyon and Thornhill Broome. March 16th st through October 16th: Occupancy is limited to 7 consecutive days in each of the abovecampgrounds. Following the 7 Day limit there must be a 48 hour period of vacancy beginning 12 noon on the check out day to 12 noon of the second day following before the same person, group, vehicles or equipment may occupy that campground. October 17 through March 15th: Occupancy is limited to 15 consecutive days in each of the abovecampgrounds. Following the 15 Day limit there must be a 48 hour period of vacancy beginning 12 noon on the check out day to 12 noon of the second day following before the same person, group, vehicles or equipment may occupy that campground.
